Welcome to our site!
The Friends of Berkeley County Animals is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization established to support the needs of animals within Berkeley County SC. (In the summer of 2025, we changed our name to more accurately represent the expanse of our support. We are now known as Friends of Berkeley County Animals.) Note, while we transition our official documentation, you may see our name listed both ways. The organization was created by animal loving volunteers to support the well-being of animals within our county. Our group stands in the gap between what private county non-profit animal rescues and Charleston Animal Society Berkeley Campus can provide, and what is needed to enrich the lives of the animals they rescue until they are placed in loving homes.
In the tradition of nonprofit Friends’ groups, we are stepping up to the challenge of supporting their collective efforts to find homes for the abandoned and surrendered animals of Berkeley County.
Only by bringing together hardworking volunteers, a caring community, and generous donors are we able to accomplish our goals. We work hard to raise funds, organize events, grow volunteerism, promote public education, and encourage community and business involvement for the benefit of the growing homeless animal population in Berkeley County, SC.
We closely coordinate with local non-profit rescues and Charleston Animal Society Berkeley Campus to understand their needs so on-site staff and volunteers can focus on the daily care and adoption of these defenseless animals who so desperately just want help and homes. Together we are a winning team!
We are on a mission to:
• Educate the community about how they can help decrease the homeless animal population.
• Increase adoption rates.
• Provide medical assistance funding to help sick or injured animals.
• Provide spay/neuter assistance within Berkeley County.
• Provide items for those who care for animals to create a better environment for them.
