There are so many ways to help, ranging from off-site, limited/virtual participation to hands-on event assistance! No matter what you want to do, we'd love to have you!
Adopt. Foster. Donate. Volunteer. Advocate
Our greatest need is volunteers! While the shelter will handle adoption and foster-specific inquiries and management, we continue to grow our base in other areas, with our most critical needs falling under event support. Each year, we host several large events, along with quite a few smaller fundraisers and community awareness actvities. Volunteers are needed at all of them, whether that means helping to set-up/tear-down, transport items to/from, helping on-site or even assisting us virtually by getting the word out and sharing our posts. The shelter has many direct volunteer needs as well. One of the most fun ways to volunteer as an entire family is to take a shelter dog on a Doggie Day Out! At pick-up, the shelter staff can provide a list of places to walk or visit, and there are several pet friendly restaurants or stores you can find. These day trips provide a much-needed break for shelter dogs who will often spend 23.5+ hours a day in a kennel. They get to decompress for a bit, get some exercise, and breathe in fresh air. You can take them to the beach, or for a long walk at a park; grab a pup cup, or even take them to your home to watch TV and just relax! And a side bonus: we learn more about the dog in a real-world setting, which ultimately helps them become more adoptable. Dogs can be signed out as early as 10am Tuesday through Saturday, and should be returned by 4pm so they can have dinner. Just head to Berkeley Animal Center at 131 Central Berkeley Drive in Moncks Corner, SC and make a dog's day! No advance call or appointment necessary.
